NEWS: The SqueezeCenter v7.0 compatible version of WebLogger is almost finished.  I've got all components of it working, except for previewing templates, and internal code clean-up.  If you're interested in helping me test it in the state it's in, please email me at danny@rego.com and I'll be glad to hook you up!  (as long as you don't mind the "alpha/beta" state of the plugin!)

Let everyone know what music you are listening to on your SqueezeBox by displaying it on your personal website!

WebLogger is a plugin for your SqueezeBox that puts a "what I am listening to" box on your website.  Whenever you listen to your squeezebox, it will automatically update your website with the currently playing song/album so that people visiting your page(s) can see what you are listening to.

Download, and install WebLogger (below), and let the world know what you are listening to on your SqueezeBox!

Features include:

  • Updating website using HTTP GET/POST, FTP, XML, or a local file.
  • Uploads, and displays album art.
  • Customizeable templates.
  • Configurable through slim server web interface.
  • Automatic/manual updates.

Instructions:

  1. Download the plugin (at the bottom of this page).
  2. Unzip to slim server's "plugins" folder/directory.
  3. Open a browser, and go to slim server's web interface (normally http://myserver:9000)
  4. Click on "Player Settings", then "Plugins", look for the WebLogger section, and click on "Configure WebLogger".  (make sure the player you'd like to configure for use with WebLogger is powered up)

  • Slimserver v6.5.x (beta/nightlies not supported)
  • See known problems below for information about the new Squeezecenter v7.0

Fixed/added in this version:

  • ADDED seperate storage of FTP username and password, so that someone viewing the URL doesn't see it.  (security)
  • ADDED encrption of ftp password.
  • MODIFIED method of accessing the WebLogger config page modified so the link is not on the main front-door page of Slim Server.
  • ADDED WebLogger section to player plugins area.
  • FIXED WebLogger now works with all skins.
  • FIXED Template previews under LINUX should now be working fine.  (although I have no way of testing...please notify me if this is still the case)
  • FIXED When using multiple players...the web interface would get confused between players, and manual updates and going to the config page may have happened on the wrong player.
  • ADDED Ability to display a template for when a player is stopped, or powered down.

Reported/known Problems:

  • The labels for the two template selection areas on the configuration page are showing as their internal TAGS.  I think the problem is with slimserver...I have not been able to narrow that down, but it is only a visual annoyance.  I will fix it as soon as I figure out what's causing it.
  • I have a new version almost ready to go, but I am having trouble finding/fixing one major bug that's making it almost unuseable.  That's the reason for the delay in version releases, and I hope to have it fixed and released very soon.  (this is basically my sorry apology to all of those who've emailed lately)
  • There seems to be a problem with the plugin showing incorrect/missing artist names with the latest version of slim server.  I am going to hold off the next release until slimserver v7.00, as it appears I'll need to re-do a bunch of stuff to make it work with that version anyways!
  • This plugin is NOT YET compatible with Squeezecenter v7.0.  An update will be available shortly.
