I've only been married for 3 weeks, and I've already found another. Here's her picture...

...I'm in love!
It's called a squeezebox, and it's made by a company called slimdevices. It's basically an MP3 player that streams audio files from your PC over your home network, via network cable, or 802.11b wireless. The sound quality is quite good, and it's looking like this is what I'm replacing my CD player with as soon as I finish foolin' around with it.
The only thing I don't (or at least didn't) like about it was the fact the you had to run server software on your PC for it to stream the music. I hate bulky applications that always need to be running, but this thing is very lightweight. You can't even tell that it's running, so it doesn't bug me one bit.
The thing that really warmed me up to the server software, and the squeezebox in general was the fact that the server software was open-source, and that people were making home-made plugins for this thing left and right. A geek loves nothing more than being able to hack into something and make it do whatever the hell he wants, so that's what I'm in the middle of doing. I am creating a plugin called "WebLogger" which shows you what I'm listening to at home on my squeezebox. I just finished it today, and it looks like this...
(look on the right-hand side of the screen)
...that's right...that's what I'm listening to (I hope it's not playing Anne Murray right now! Haahaa)
The bonus is that slimdevices is having a contest for the best plugin, and I have until the end of august to enter my plugin, so hopefully I can make it super-cool, and easy to use in time, and more importantly I hope people like it, and use it.
Anyways...I just thought I'd introduce this fine piece of audio equipment to you, and if you're interested, you can order them from Kawartha TV & Stereo in Peterborough at very decent prices considering what you're getting.
My WebLogger plugin is complete...to learn more about it, click here.
